Its my mums 50th birthday soon and me and my sis wanted to give her something special. We're all going over to italy for her birthday, but we wanted to actually give her something.....to remember it. Thinking along the lines of a collage of all the family maybe? Anyone else got any ideas??

Maybe you could collect some photos of your family and put them in a nice album or set of photo frames. These days, a lot of people are having photos taken professionally as gifts or having family paintings commissioned for a loved one (if you want to keep costs down, see if you can find an art student to do it for you).

A photo album of you all through the years would be good too. Maybe you could get all her friends together and have a photo of them included.

When people get to that age they prefer sentimental things like photo albums and stuff like that.

And also family get- togethers, go out for a meal etc.

Yeah, you could make like an A3 collage and then frame it, I helped my mate do that once; it looked really good. One year when my sister and I were really skint we made a video on my camcorder to give to my mum. It sounds really stupid but we put a bit of thought into it, and it worked well. Also, one of these years, I'm going to buy my mum one of those 'red letter day' experiences; she's always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon, so I'm going to buy her that. However, they are pricey - the balloon is around £160. But it's an idea anyway...
