Girls! [waxing/shaving on holiday]

ok... me and some of my friends are going away for 2 weeks in august to belgium and germany. there won't always be shower facilities, and when there are... it's likely there will be a queue of hundreds of people (people from all over the world are joining in the trip).
most of the time, we'll be in shorts and sleeveless tops. so any advice on getting rid of hair? (concerning legs and underarms)
is there anything we can do before we go away that might last for the 2 weeks? or only need one top-up?
cos shower facilities will be scarce and a lot of the time we'll be outdoors or staying in some sort of big stadium or something.
thanks!

You could try waxing, which will leave you hair free for the entire time you are there. If you have never done it before, maybe you could go to a salon and they will do it for you, which avoids bruising. Its not that expensive either. Or you could do it yourself at home, you can get waxing strips from chemists, Ive tried the Veet ones and they are quite good. It will probably hurt briefly though, so be warned!

I'd personally braid all that hair into cornrows.

Try an epilator. I'm sure you'll have access to a plug won't you?

I use something call 'Nads' it's the number one selling hair removal in Australia. I bought it from a shopping channel. It is fantastic, better then veet etc which I have unsucessfully tried on many occasions. Nads is a natural substance which really does pull the hair out from the roots! It lasts for a few weeks too. It is quite expensive but apparantly, I've recently heard they sell them in Boots! Nads is also good because they say that continuous use of Nads leads to little hair over time.

You could wax or epilate before you go which keeps the hair away for 2-4 weeks. Alternitavely you could take a dry battery powered razor with you meaning you can just do it anywhere. Like this one. Although I got one that was cheaper than that. Just have a look in boots

AFAIK it is basically using a machine similar to a razor, but it pulls the hair out instead of cutting it.

it hurts so much!

id say try waxing jus before you go and then take the epilator with you.
even if you dont have access to a plug, there are some epilators which are chargeable so u can charge it beforeu go and use it on ur holiday.

I tried to epilate my armpits, fecking agony :frown:

I did manage a small patch though, I kinda want to try again in a weird way...
lol, i want one for my legs, but not sure about the pits, hehe! epilating has the longest time range i think, but you may want to wax, depends on what you want, but theoretically, they should hurt about the same.

hmm was wondering what an epilator was too.
i think we'll try out some waxing a while before we go and if it works then use it the day before we leave or something.
we won't have access to plugs as our luxury accomodation will involve a tent or a nice patch of floor.
is an epilator expensive?
and which works better --> cold wax or hot wax??
oh also can you use those wax things for underarms?
thanks.

epilators are around £50. a little expensive but they last for ages so definitely worth it. cheaper and less painful than a wax. if you wanna use wax, i'd recommend hot wax, and yes you can use it under your arms but i'd advise a friend to help. perhaps take an electric razor along with a few spare batteries just in case. and take some tweezers.

There's an epilator on Amazon for about £20, and there's hundreds that are cheaper then £50!

i heard that some people got bruised by nads, and that it doesnt work. i saw it on a shopping channel once and it looked good, but having said that, you cant believe everything you see on the telly!

Hmm, I can't believe that I'm seeing recommendations for epilating! I spent loads of money on an epilator thinking it sounded great, but I didn't account for the fact that it took so long- after 45 minutes of constant plucking and irritation, only the front of one shin was done and even then there were a good few hairs left behind! It's not as if I'm Godzilla, either, not even close.. I don't have much body hair at all.

On the other hand, I've seen a lot of people who it's worked for

I find it takes a while the first time, but then your hair grows back finer. I now have patches of hair that haven't grown back yet, so I've only got about half the hair to remove. I'd show you what I mean but I'm sure you don't wanna see pics of my hairy legs!

Ah epilation, my speciality- all I've ever used- good thing too, me and a razor in the past would have been fatal.

For me, hairs have always grown about 1/2 full length back after a week- so no clue why people always say it keeps hairs away for 2 weeks+. If you've never used an epilator, it wouldn't be a good idea to use one just before going on holiday, it'll probably make your legs kinda red and will also hurt somewhat.

Juno how long have you been using an epilator for? My mum says after a while of constantly pulling out the hairs they stop growing back but I've been using it for 4 years and no change as of yet.
