Just wondering if anyone on here had ever suffered with, or does suffer with, a phobia or anxiety?

Has anyone here successfully managed to treat a phobia, anxiety,or are there people going through treatment?

I have arachnophobia and i dont intend on treating it, instead i intend on shooting thme with my air rifle.

I have Emetophobia - fear of vomitting or other people vomitting. Im not doing too well with it at the moment. I had a panic attack and nearly passed out at a party last weekend because a guy was being sick outside :frown: I was shaking and crying for about half an hour so its not the best phobia to have at a party

My mum has exactly that, its weird, she was thinking of seeing a psychologist to snap out of it but hasnt yet because she fears talking about it will make her worse. Maybe you should try that.

I suffer from a social phobia which makes me feel crap, so I know exactly how people feel when they suffer from one too.

So far I havent found any successful treatments and was just wondering what helped other people. I am thinking of having some hypnotherapy but not sure if it would work or not.

What kind of social phobia? Do you mean something like agrophobia where you find it distressing going out the house etc.
I wouldn't really call it a phobia, but I can't be in the same room as a woodlouse. I also hate being trapped in a small space, and I flip out if someone stretches elastic bands, like seeing how far they can pull them before they snap. I really really hate that.
Arachnophobia. I have no intention of getting it treated, as it will require actually going near spiders.
i have a phobia of fireworks :frown: dont like them at all after i got hit with one on my back :frown: xoxo

I dont want to go into too much detail here because I dont have the confidence, but basically I worry about going out to new places (ie shops, concerts, clubbing, work, if I have to go to meetings, etc) in case I make an idiot of myself.

Im not scared of other people, more of myself and how my body will react if Im in a new situation. Sounds weird I know.

i have hydrophobia - fear of water. i'm not scared of like tap water or anything... just of being in water. too many near-drowning experiences!!
also very rather scared of bees and wasps... also linked to bad childhood experiences
i've attempted to get over my fear of water by learning to swim but eventually i gave up cos i keep getting panicky and refuse to do anything heh... but i think bee and wasp fear is getting sliightly better as our school was overrun by massive wasps during the winter  so i had to learn to not COMPLETELY freak out when one came in... (that doesn't mean i didn't freak out a bit though.... :p: )

Thanks, Im getting there slowly!
I don't think it is really a phobia, but i am painfully shy and always scared that people are gonna shout at me. The phobias i do have are really wierd. I have a phobia of waxworks, i would not be able to enter Madame Tussauds. I also have a phobia of Moths after a giant one flew at my face once.

I think you just need to get over it, as it were. Force yourself to talk to people. I used to be shy as well. If you talk to people you don't know once, you'll know you can do it again. I can kind of understand why you're scared of social situations, but if you think about it, it's a bit irrational - you shouldn't fear people! Most of the time they just want to be your friend.

it might be ok to talk to people and you might feel fine whilst you're speaking to them, but it wont necessarily take the anxiety away before speaking to them, it would take a build up of courage to do so, that's what phobias are all about.
