Will an FM transmitter work, if my radio signal does not?

I have a 96' Renault Clio and my radio doesn't work, whenever I try to tune it I just get white noise. I can't afford to go to an audio expert for him to check it out, and don't care about the radio. I do though want to get an FM transmitter, but I am afraid it won't work as my radio does not work?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

What do you mean, an FM transmitter?

[EDIT] If you mean one of those iPod things, then obviously it won't work. If you can't tune into a frequency on the radio, you won't be able to tune into the FM transmitter's frequency.

For an iPod or MP3 player, probably.

If your car won't pick up a signal from regular radio stations, an FM transmitter won't get picked up either.

If you car can't pick up radio signals then no, it won't be able to pick up a radio signal...

You have still got an aerial yeah? If it's been ripped off in the past then it's highly doubtful that your radio will tune in. If it has been and you can find the stump where it used to be then a wire coat hanger will restore reception; or if you're a little less flash then you can pick them up from Halfrauds for less than twenty quid.

Not if the OPs radio aerial is one of those that is built in to the rear window heater (for those who don't know - those plastic-painted lines that go across the rear windscreen). If that is broken, then I think the OP is snookered.
