How much money should i take on holiday?

I'm going to Crete (Malia) for a week.

I'm no alcoholic :p: but obviously i wanna have a good time!

Oh and bare in mind i'm a poor student

I really didn't wanna take much, but the friends i'm going with are taking about £500, which i didn't even contemplate taking! They all wanna eat out in expensive restaurants every night whereas i wanna do that a couple of nights but i don't wanna spend loads! I'd rather go out n stay sober saving my money whereas i'm sure they'll take loads out.

Its really winding me up, because they're all being bitchy towards one another saying 'oh if anyone runs out of money we can't lend it to you' and 'if anyone's got no money to go out were not changing our plans' which is fair enough as its their holiday too, but i know we all wanna have a wicked time but i don't wanna spend every penny i've worked for getting hammered and pissing it all up the wall, i just don't! When i get home i still wanna have some money, but then again i want to have enough on holiday..

The thing is, their parents are lending them loads of money whereas my dad already paid for most of my holiday and my mum has the attitude that if i wanna go on holiday on my own i gotta pay for it all myself, again, fair enough... I dunno what to do!

Take £500, and spend it wisely. Then you should have some left when you return home, without having to worry about regretting not taking enough. Can't you access your account from abroad anyway?

Take £500.

Lol, ok then MR  Err i don't wanna touch my bank account abroad, like i said, i don't wanna draw out unnecessary money, which includes being out one night wanting to drink more and being able to go to a cash point. No.

Well you're going to have to work out a suitable compromise yourself. You're either going to have to spend less on holiday, and have more when you get back, or blow the lot having a good time there.

Why don't you want to touch your bank account abroad? Do you really have that little self-control? If you do, there's not much anyone's going to be able to do to help you. That's the only way I can see of ensuring you don't miss out on holiday, and when you get back home.

Its not about self control! Its about not wanting to spend more money than i need to!

malia is ok. I went there in 2003. Good if you just want to get trashed but its not really the real side of crete.

Drinks and stuff there aren't too cheap, about €3-5 a beer. If I remember correctly it was €5 for a JD and coke which was more JD than coke and pretty damn lethal.

I'd take £500, activities in the day/presents for people/food/drink all adds up to a fairly large amount. Sure you might not spend it but its probably better to ensure that the money is there if you need to spend it than not having enough.

And i heard it was cheap out there! *sigh*

It's not especially cheap in malia, and everything we did was centered around drinking, apart from the odd day trip to the water sports park/scuba diving/parasailing. Why are you going on that sort of holiday if you don't drink?

I do drink! I just dont wanna get hammered like all my friends!

Well you'll still have fun, as long as you don't midn being around people who are a lot drunker than you. And you'll spend less money!
