    Is this still a major issue, when having medicals to join the armed forces, in particular for a pilot int he RAF?

    well yes and no... the Army and I am sure the RAF have the same focus on flat feet. If you can walk, run, TAB (tactical advance to battle), etc all without what they class as 'painful flat feet' then you should be fine. But if you do get pain from doing any sort of long distance walks then i'm afraid you're probably not going to get in.
