Dentistry with pre-dental year

When i finish my A levels next year i hope to go on to do dentistry.
The problem is, i did not realise i wanted to do dentistry when i made my choices for A levels.

In order to do dentistry now i must do a pre-dental year in Uni, taking 6 years to complete the couse rather than the usual 5.

I was just wondering if anyone else is thinking of apply for a pre-dental year and i would also like to hear from any students currently doing the pre-dental year.

I'm a dental applicant, hopefully starting this September, so not sure if I'll be much help; however, here's some advice for your PS:

Try and make it as original, and true to you as possible. State YOUR reasons for choosing it as a career path. If you're one of those people doing it for the money, then think back to your work placement which you must have done. What did you enjoy about it? What did you do?

I don't think it would be good if you reeled off what 90% of people will, as it will not make your application stand out, therefore there isn't much point in asking others as to why they chose dentistry, does that make sense?

Also you may want to check out www.admissionsforum.co.uk.

Hope that helps.

thanks.
Good luck with your application.
Can i ask what grades you were predicted and where you hope to study?
Did you think the course was very competative?

I've been predicted AA, I already have one other A.

Hopefully I'll be studying at Liverpool this september.

The course is extremely competetive given the few numbers of dental schools, and the number of places at each school.

Does anyone know if the 6 year course is more competative than the 5 year course.
I think that it was in the Bristol prospectus it said for the 6 year course the places:applicants was 5:88
Where as the 5 year course was 47:404

Does any one know if this is this a similar case for other universities offering the pre-dental year?

I emailed AJS Bartholomew, Admissions and Recruitment, at Bristol uni, she said about 50:600 for 5 year, so i dont think 404 applications. may be u want to email her at [email protected]
to get more accurate ratio for the 6years.

Thanks for the helpfull comment w8wizz. You've been extremely helpfull throughout all my posts. (All of about five). I will email the admissions tutor asap to find out more.

I hear you are starting up a weekly dental lecture in your town, am i able to join?
It sounds like it will really clue me up on the latest dental progressions.

I heard about you beating a local tennis star. Apparently he was supposed to be extremely good. Although i think in the local newspaper it said that there were a few minor flaws in his new racket. LoL.
