In the "caring profession" there really isn't an excuse for any of these things, all of which have happened to me several times:
- being rough when examining you (ow ow ow - and do they stop when you tell them to? No. Don't be silly, it doesn't hurt.)
- not listening properly
- not caring about your explanation or problem
- telling you you’re being stupid and generally fobbing you off
- discouraging you from doing what is best for you (a doctor tried to talk me OUT of going on the pill when I was 16. I had no reason not to go on, it was clearly a personal issue of his)
- being told you're NOT things, when you clearly are. After a general anaesthetic I was in that gown (and nothing else) and a tiny sheet in a cold ward and I was told I wasn't cold!!
Of course I'm not saying all healthcare professionals are like this, but when I think about it this sort of thing has happened to me well over 50% of the time I've been to see someone. And that's just too high.
