Air pumps are often pretty loud. You might be able to spend a bit more than normal and get a 'silent' one though.

How long have you had the tank? If it's the filter that is noisy that should get quieter with age.

Tbh, I'm used to the sound of air pumps and filters. I have 4 fish tanks in my room, one in the hall and two in the living room. You won't mind the noise after a while.

The original pump for the biorb was way too noisy. i replaced that and now it is starting to get noisy again, however I feel it is because of the position of the pump. Where do you place your pump?
I have had the tank for about five years.

I don't use air pumps on my tanks.

I put the filters just below the water line and most of them are very quiet (except for the tricking of water which I don't mind).

Air pumps vibrate against whatever they are stood on so they'll be fairly noisy.
