Pleasant subject - ovarian cysts!

I've just spent a few days in hospital with really horrible stomach pains, which, at first the doctors thought was appendicitis, have now said it was acute gastritis and a ruptured ovarian cyst. The last part kind of worries me a little as I'm only 17 - am I not a bit young to be getting those things? Will this mean I'll be prone to developing more cysts as I get older, and yucky pains in tow? I don't know much about this, but if anyone else does/has been in a similar position, a bit of advice/info would be greatly appreciated

I don't know much about it.

Except Teri Bauer from 24 had a burst ovarian cyst in series one and was in alot of pain.
i have no idea bout these things. but one question, why didnt you ask these questions to your doctor whilst in hospital, surely the experts are the ones to ask about these things
To be honest I was that relieved to find out it wasn't my appendix and was too eager to get out of the ruddy hospital that these questions didn't really cross my mind, which was a bit irresponsible of me lol. I have a follow-up appointment with my GP soon so I'll talk to him about it then, I was just asking on the offchance really!

If I am not wrong, you have a small cyst on each of your ovaries that tend to swell when you get your period and that is normal. For some people, the swelling is slightly more than normal which leads to lots of pain...it is supposed to get better as you grow older though...

my best friend got those cysts from taking the pill, she never had any problem before going on the pill, but when she went on she had loads of problems and they had to operate to get them out. 'She said that it sometimes happens, and they changed her pill. Are you on the pill?

So what exactly are the symptoms of these cysts?
well the thing is, I wasn't aware that i had one until it burst :s which was really painful
I had an ovarian cyst plus an ovary removed when I was ten! It was very painful because it was mobile and used to twist around my organs
I have to say, I haven't had any problems since it was removed, although I do have a really big scar running down the middle of my lower stomach.

The doctors thought I had abdominal migraines at first

I may be wrong, but you know, it could very well have been the pill that caused this. So if you are no longer on the pill you probably don't have to worry about getting anymore.
When I was in hospital the girl in the next bed had ovarian cysts, and we were in the childrens ward, so she couldn't have been more than 16.

I had ovarian cysts or something like it when i was a baby my mother informed me last night, so it just goes to show anyone can get them at any age.
i'd be well more worried it was my ovaries than my appendix..

but they are very survivable i kwo that.

I am not aware of any information linking the pill to ovarian cysts. But I'm willing to be proved wrong if you have the links.
