I'm due to start there next month sometime and was wondering whether it is necessary to wear smart/business dress or not??

The tutor might be in a suit - but all the students will be casual

It should say in your joining instructions aswell what the dress code is

At BPP it's very casual too. If you don't want to be too dressed down then go smart casual on your first day and see what everyone else is wearing.
