I'm entitled to rest breaks during exams and was wondering how they work? How long are they? Do they take the paper away? etc.

My uni have specified 5 minutes per hour of exam taken and it specifies it is allocated for resting, visiting the bathroom, walking around, stretching. No reading or writing allowed. Invigilator to be called over when break neede. It can't be added at the end of writing time (not sure what the relevance of this last bit is). Also wherever possible no more than one exam a day to br timetabled.

I also am entitiled to Rest breaks.

What they do to me is that I say to the invigilator, that I want rest breaks. They will then stop the clock. They will also shut my paper up and then I would take a break. I would then say to the invigilator when I am ready to start again, and they will let me continue with the paper and start the clock again.

Unluckily though, I did not take any rest breaks as I did not need it...

You will have to negotiate it with your uni though. In my case I had a staement of educational need since 1995 which specified I was to get that throughout my compulsory schooling. Whilst the statement is no longer applicable it was powerful evidence of need.
