    just a question about the mass spec, is this statement correct:

    increasing the magentic field allows ions with a higher m/z ratio to be deflected?

    i never know whether its a higher ratio or what, i know the heavier the ions, the less they are deflected,and the higher the charge the more they are deflected but whats it to do with the ratio?

    The ions get diffused in proportion to the ratio.

    The heavier, the higher the ratio
    The more charged the lower the ratio

    F = Bqv = mv^2/r

    rearrange to get m/q = Br/v

    B = magnetic field stregth, r=radius of curvature, v = velocity of ion
