I don't really care what people think about Media Studies so if you've got something bad to say, leave it. I am doing this course because I love the subject and want to have a career based in media. I am not thick and have grades good enough to do many other courses if i wanted to, but I don't. FACT.

Anyway, back to the point... who here is applying for Media Studies or Media and Communication or any other variation of these courses?

If you are, where have you applied? where have you got offers? And what were your offers? I'm just curious and will discuss mine with you too. Thanks

    Hi,
In reply to your post My daughter has decided to do Media too. You are right it is a good, valuable choice. I think most people assume it is all about reviewing films etc. not realising how comprehensive the subject actually is. Most global industries and private companies spend more on media and communications than anything else.
Her offers are for : Goldsmiths, Loughborough, Sussex, Bournemouth and Gloucestershire

I know what you mean, it seems like everyone seems to think your thick just because you want to do media studies. My ICT teacher called me simple minded last year and that i do the easy subjects just because i like media. yess im applying to do it at university and love the subject, so your not on your own its not an easy subject whatsoever tbh. You do have to think alot, maybe not like you have to in maths/ science but i like the way you have to think

    ive applied for
    sheffield hallam
    northumbria
    de montford
    leeds
all for different media studies related courses, but think im going to sheffield hallam to do media studies and public relations.

Hello there I know, I really can't see peoples problems with it. I don't want to study medicine or something as that really does not interest me at all!

Has she actually had offers back from all of them or just applied to them? If she has offers, what grades/points does she have to get?

I have applied to Portsmouth, Brighton, DeMontfort, Nott Trent and Sussex. I was going to apply for Loughborough and Bournemouth but changed my mind :p: There's too many unis to pick from!

I know. People just don't really understand. I'd like to see them take the exam and make a film and a CI to match it and get as good grades as I do (not being big headed but it is my best subject!)

Cool. What were you offers? What grades/points did you have to get? We've both applied for DeMontfort :p:

I've been studying media in college now for 3 years (nq, hnc/d) and im currently in my last year and have applied to university for 3rd year entry in Sept. I find it interesting and its not 'simple' like many people perceive it to be which really annoys me haha, I think most people just presumme its all tv and radio yet you do marketing, pr, journalism etc!
I've applied to universities in my sig and received two offers yesterday

I have read on here that someone has a BBB offer from Sussex and I think they are quite open minded. She has had lots of work experience within Media related industries and her predicted grades were ok so I think that helped. With Media I don't think they are always looking for a straight A type. They are interested in your ability to look and evaluate and plan as well as your creative ability to report on your investigations etc. Those skills don't always come from reading a book !!

The media courses are all so different so take your time in choosing which one. Lots of essay writing in most of them!! so ensure you like the place too.:eek3:

i have to admit, I do find it curious about what specific jobs people that do a Media & Communications / Media Studies degree, want to do as a career after they have earned their degree. Since I see Film Production degrees, journalism degrees and even public relation degrees to a specific part of the media industry.

Personally i have applied to do Film & TV, as I want to get involved in producing, screen writing, perhaps directing specifically.

@OP, Are you planning for a career in something specific in the Media Industry ? Or keeping it quite broad at the moment?

I'd say napier and if I get an offer from caledonian university then they two would be a close first choice but I keep changing my mind a little... I think it may be because I wanted to move away to Edinburgh and presumed the easiest uni to get into would be QMU because I applied for two courses there but now that I have two offers so far its like :eek3:
Im best just waiting to see if I get anymore offers then carefully decide where I want to go xD
How about you, where you hoping to go?

Hopefully. I don't know if I will pick Sussex anyway as I'm in love with Portsmouth. Nott Trent and Demontforts courses look great. They allow you to specialise in a certain pathway. However, I preferred some of the others places in general as a town and also the uni so I'll just wait for the offers to come in. All the courses have slight variations which makes it hard to pick as there is so many

Well I'm pretty much open minded as I would like to think when I study at uni, something will pop out at me and I will be like yeah, that's what I want to do. At the moment, I'd really consider a career in advertisement or something like that. I love aspects of broadcast as well as print but maybe more so print ass I don't think I could make it in the TV business or anything as it is so hard. But like I said, I'll just wait and see.

Aww, that's great news! Well, I've always had my heart set on Brighton until I went there. The part where the media course would be held felt more like a college and I was really disappointed. I wass then open to anything and didn't have a favourite. I thought I'd hate DeMontfort (but maybe because there entry points are the lowest? Sounds crap but I think that's really why) but it was actually really good. But when I went to Portsmouth, I just knew that it was 'my' uni. I fell in love with it and just knew.

However, looking at the others courses now, I don't know whether I should go with a better course? With more variety? Nottingham Trent's looks really good but I haven't visited there as it was a last minute change from another uni just before I sent off my application. I also put down Sussex as I love Brighton and the uni and course look good. I've been around the outside but not actually into it but will wait until I get an offer or rejection and then go if I get an offer.

    Sorry for the essay :o:

Sheffield Hallam and De Montford 240 points
    Leeds 220

Oh yeaaah i really like the look of De Montford but think im gonna Sheffiled Hallam because of the course

I loved DMU as a place and the course was great too. Did you visit it and go to an open day?

I'll reply on my bf's behalf, as he is curious about other Media applicants.

He applied for Media and/or Creative/Media Writing (lots of diff combinations) at:
    Bath Spa
    Middlesex
    Sunderland
    Kingston
Bolton (incase all else failed, he had better marks than that).

Got offers from all 5, has firmed Bath Spa and Insuranced Middlesex, with offers of 280 and 260 respectively.

I also agree with you guys about the value of Media courses
