# C3 Question- BAM! watch

1. (Original post by Maturity)
How are we supposeed to know the differential of Cotx ?
y = 1/tanx

can I use the quotient rule to find ... =cosec^2 x?
well cotx also equals cosx/sinx , right?

use the quotient rule on that and you'll get -cosec^2 x
2. (Original post by Maturity)
Thank you anyway .
No problem.

Cotx = 1/tanx
cotx= (tanx)^-1

Let y = (tanx)^-1
dy/dx = -(tanx)^-2 (secx)^2
= (secx)^2/ (tanx)^2
= - cosec^2x
