Isn't it a form of self-harm? Just stop pulling your hair for gods sake!

what you've been pulling it out yourself?
use the search function - there have already been at least two threads about this relativly recently

MB
It's a psychological disorder associated with anxiety as far as I know, well it was one of the topics we studied last semester in psych.

But yeah MB has a good point too, if that's the case (if there are more similar threads on this).

do you really think its as easy as that?
Reply 7
I can't see what could be easier. As soon as you put your hand on your hair just say to yourself 'Actually, no, I'm not gonna pull my hair out' ...

if it was as easy as that then people wouldn't have a problem. but they do, becuase its not as easy as that. i do it without realizing all the time, becuase its a habit.

Doesn't it hurt? How can you not notice?
Trichotillomania is a psychological disorder also known as an impulse control disorder. It is a disorder that involves irresistible urges.

The main characteristics of Trich include:

Before the sufferer pulls their hair there is a high level of tension and a strong urge to pull.

Pleasure, gratification, or relief when pulling out the hair.

There is treatment for trich, a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy called Habit reversal training. To get a diagnosis and this type of treatment, you would need to go along to your doctor and ask for a refferal to a psychiatrist or psychologist.

I think my dad has this. It's horrible watching him pulling out his hairs! He doesn't pull them from his head though, he pulls them from like his eyebrows and arms and yuck I hate watching it :frown:

awww hun :frown: my hair falls out loads, so I look like that too. Don't worry, it'll grow back

Why not try wearing an elastic band round your wrist then when you're stressed snap that instead?

bite your fingernails instead

to late :frown:
Wear your hair up, sit on your hands, do anything that can keep you from doing it. Keep a diary of when and where you do it, and how you feel at the time, so it's easier to recognise why you're doing it... This has all been said in other threads though, if you do a search they can be found easily enough

I had that very minorly (real word????) when I was about 12 and it does grow back ok, a bit thicker and some people find it goes a bit curly. I stopped by wearing a necklace which I fiddled with when I felt like pulling out a strand.

cant you just tie it back... or just, not pull your frigging hair out?

might seem harsh but it just seems like another instance where lack of willpower is blamed on a "mental condition". just don't do it!
