Do the universities you applied to get your application the minute you send off your UCAS form?
Or do they only receive your app after you receive the UCAS Welcome Letter?

When you press pay/send it gets sent to your referee, unless you're applying on your own. Then once your referee has filled in your reference, they send it off.
Once it's actually gone to UCAS, they usually take a few days to process it. Once they've processed it, they send the letter is the post. Whilst your waiting for the letter, you can usually get onto Track, and your application is officially recieved. Of course, it does then take a few days for the letter to arrive in the post.
