 How did I miss this thread?

I was considering reapplying, but only if I get something amazing like A*A*A*A* :o:

But reading this thread (yes, every page) has me a bit happier about just accepting UCL. Apart from the post above... is the accommodation really that bad?

    wow! thats really impressive
any ideas why u didnt get in? i guess it wasnt the grades!
It could have been because of the B in AS Chemistry, which is quite important for medicine.

    On topic:
I just applied to Edinburgh.. I'm hoping they'll give me an offer, so I have an offer to fall back on if I get rejected from St A but want to study in the UK anyway.

Not that I'm EXPECTING them to do so, but I'm certainly hopeful.
What course did you apply for at Edinburgh?

Haha well you'll just have to wait to hear from Cambridge. The trip might not even be necessary. :p: History applicant.
Ah good choice! No I'm a reject already was just a bit slow updating the sig:p: but oh well I'm getting pretty exicted about Durham and Warwick

    Cool

Personally, I would take a look at Imperial College or Durham. If I could apply again, I would have included them.

Assuming this is UCL, lol. My girlfriend goes there and likes it. I've spent a lot of time around the campus, having a nose, etc, as I did briefly consider doing postgrad politics there. From an outside perspective I'd say: The location itself is very impressive. Even though it's jam packed in the middle of Euston there is still a strong studenty feel. Can't remember the name of it.. the quadrangle? In particular around the union etc.

The bad side: The accommodation that I saw was awful. Worst I've ever seen. Felt very impersonal and disconnected from the uni too.

Also the 4th in the world nonsense is a bit of a misnomer, you have to look at how they calculate those world rankings. But still, you could go around saying that . Oh and also, a complaint of my girlfriends is that nobody she mentions UCL to knows what / where it is, nor finds it impressive. I suppose your everyday person would be more likely to know of places like Durham / city universities.
Haha that's amazing. Anyone who goes to UCL could probably boast of one of the best student-life experiences ever. It must be nice being in the central of London where everything is happening.

Accomodation -> I've heard loads of mixed things about it. Which particular block did you see? I know there are the mixed uni dorms and the UCL specific dorms or something like that, but the locations are all over the place so I expect the dorms themselves must vary quite a bit. Will have to do more research before applying methinks!

Wow, I always thought it was somewhat the other way round? UCL seems a bit more famous in my part? (:

OP, I can't compare as I haven't been to Cambridge, but I am currently at UCL now, and you'll have missed out on NOTHING if you choose UCL and don't take a year out to reapply. Durham's also good - don't be sad, you're in a brilliant situation
Awesome! Would like to hear you wax lyrical on UCL please? (: Haha UCL feels like the perfect school for me I'm just kind of worried that since its all spread out across London that there is less of a community feel to it. Is it hard making friends/socialising? I'm sure it can get pretty lonely in such a huge uni. But on the bright side, its London! No lack of exciting things to do there!

Ooh, and if you don't mindm could you please shed some light on the state of the accomodation? (:

Nah, I think I'd rather have just been directly rejected tbh, at least that way the endless stressing and waiting around ends sooner! I'll trade my spot in the pool for your Durham offer any day of the week!!
Oh right okay, I don't know anything at all about the IB but you must have an absolutely outstanding application to have got an offer for History at Durham so early!! I didn't even think they made offers before the Jan deadline.
Very best of luck with whatever you choose to do, if I'm lucky enough maybe see you at Durham in Oct!!
Haha, no way! Being pooled means you have that much higher a chance at Cambridge, and if at Cambridge, then certainly at Durham! :p: Sorry to hear about the waiting part, I know I was practically dying throughout that period.

It was nothing impressive - I just submitted mine pretty early so that could have been why. :shy2:

Yes to you too! Keep us posted with how you do at the pool!

Haha oh! But the Durham open day is definitely a bright spark on my otherwise depressing calendar. This thread has totally made me look forward to starting University.

Max Rayne / Ifor Evans. Yeah, apparently the really expensive ones in the centre are nice.

She's sitting next to now and said that she wasn't prepared for how lonely it felt at times, even though there's always people around. And she said that nobody up north knows what on earth UCL is... "or even people down south", haha.

At the end of the day, if you're prepared for London living and you like the place, you won't do badly from it

    Everything is good.

Apart from the snow and such.

How are you? I see you have decided on Nottingtham rather than Warwick
yeah, heard that the snow is getting to everyone right across europe.

yeah i guess notts will be it....cause it has a much better engineering department. it also offers scholarships to international students , unlike warwick.

so you thinking of re-applying or going to exeter??

Have you had an offer?? I don't anyone who's heard. Including myself
Yeah I got an offer without interview in November (along with Southampton my only other offer *sigh*) 3As so not exactly easier than camb.
Maybe they'll invite you for interview? Not hearing is better than rejection!

You can not apply while studying at UCL. You can reapply as an affiliated student once you've finished, and do your second BA in only 2 years, but it's a lot more expensive.

So it is much different then Oxford where they dont mind you studying one year somewherel else... hmm strange for me.

Synvilla are you some kidn of related to Poland? cause i think i came acrooss you saying so

Yeah, I saw you wanted to substitute your Glasgow app for an Imperial app. I'm not really into big cities, though.. I might apply for Durham, though. But I'm really not sure. :P I'm doing everything on a whim at the moment..

    I really don't know yet.

I'm thinking I will probabaly just go to exeter unless I end up with A*AAA + in which case I will put some thought into re-applying.

    What kind of scholarships?

I have asked for feedback, but its not gonna happen that soon

Yes, it is important to them and very likely to be the reason:sadnod:
