looks like you can choose what level of maths to do. just don't do something below your ability as it could affect your choices in future years. I'd assume the financial and economic modules will have some maths involved but it shouldn't be too hard if it's anything like my accounting module was. I didn't do this degree though

me too....do you think they will be lenient with their entry grades? Theyve asked me for an ABB - including B in economics. I am pretty confident ive got an A and B (possibly even 2 A's) but i think for economics, i narrowly missed off a B. I hope they let me in!

Hard to tell, but I’m pretty sure that if you get two As and miss off a B in economics they should let you in:smile: at least I hope so, besides maybe you’ll get that B from economics? (I understand that you don’t have you’re exam results yet). So don’t worry
I rejected the offer from economics&social studies to take IBFE and em hopeing that I did the right thing
Theres a special course for people with just GCSE Maths, as i originally had a offer for this course but rejected it for BA Econ which is my insurance. At the open day they said you had to get ABB because it was a competitive course, but you never know.

I got Pankhurst Court, anyone else going there?

I stayed in Pankhurst court in my first year (2 years ago in 2003 lol)! Im studying BA Economics, similar to you! Pankhurst court is pretty quiet and you really need to make an effort and be loud. The rooms are great and get cleaned every wednesday morning.

My advice: Get to know EVERYONE, only 210 people in pankhurst court 1 and 2. I stayed in pankhurst 1.2.04 thats my exact room, what do you have?

Good luck,
Tej

Hey

I’m going to stay in room no. P1.1.06, any idea how is it?
I have seen other post saying that pankhurst court is pretty quiet, and this got me worried a little. It’s not that I have smth against quiet, but especially at the beginning I would like to have some social life
I see that you have a similar degree, how was/is it? I mean do you like what you’re studying?
I studied law for a year (not in the UK) and decided to try economics, hope that I wont be disappointed

thx for advice

Pankhurst is my third choice, Weston Hall and Richmond Court are my other two. Really hope i get into one of them!
Hey everyone

Just stumbled across this thread, and thought I would try offer some advice.
In september i will be starting my second year of the IBFE program and i'm also IBFE Society President for this year.

Monkiwrensh: re the maths, as a few others have touched on you won't be given a choice which maths/stats mopdules you take, this will be based on your ability ie. whther you've just done GCSE, AS or A level. It's really not something to worry about, I 've heard that the 'basic' maths module is very straightforward and I know that the others aren't overly difficult. I know people who had done no maths at all post GCSE and had taken a gap year and they managed just fine.

The maths content within the first year finance/economics modules is relatively small, certainly nothing far beyond GCSE.

If you do meet any problems, there is a strong academic support stucture in place and I know people who booked extra tutorials in preparation for their maths exams. In all, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about!

Anna85: - I also rejected a BA Econ offer in favour of IBFE - I've never regretted this decision once! For econ or finance specialists it provides much more focus than BA Econ. It is a much smaller program, which I quite like cos I find you get to know much more people. Also, in the first year there is no great difference between the two programmes (for BA Econ fin/eco/bus specialists). One of my friends is on the BA Econ prog and was on every one of my courses this year, so I would think there would be opportunity to move over, even after the first year. (But you won;t want to!)
Anyway, I feel this is a good opportunity to plug IBFE SOC FRESHERS' WEEK EVENTS!!!

This year is a great time to be an IBFE student as the Society has much stronger uni support and we have the sports teams and mentor scheme coming into existence.

So far planned:

TUES 27TH SEP: FRESHERS' PARTY AT SCU BAR! FREE DRINKS, COMPETITIONS AND CHANCE TO WIN PRIZES!!!! USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MEET YOUR FELLOW COURSE MATES WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT OF UNI SURROUNDINGSS!

MEET YOUR MENTOR!!! UNI TOUR AND A BITE TO EAT WITH YOUR PEER MENTOR FOR THE YEAR. ANOTHER GREAT CHANCE TO MEET OTHER IBFE STUDENTS.

Use the freshers' events to meet other IBFE'ers cos, as i mentioned, after freshers' week all social sciences get all mingled up (which is nice) but you lose track of who's on your course. It's nice to have a bunch of friends from your course and the IBFE Soc events really are the best place to find them.

Anyway if you guys would like any more info, feel free to pm me. Or if you have any sugeestions of further freshers' week activities, let me know.

I look forward to meeting you in freshers' week

with IBFE you will be taught with other students from BA Econ in some of your modules.

ive just graduated this year from BA Econ.
but as far as i know, many people in IBFE were complaining about their compulsary sociology modules in the 2nd year. Basically its compulsary for the first 2 years, as opposed to BA Econ students-only in the 1st year.

thats the major problem ive heard from them coz apparently the sociology is dull and boring.

but you will see to it yourself. i wouldnt know more.
