I don't think it being a student forum means we all need to know how many UMS you got in D1. :dontknow:
It goes to the point of arrogance when the grade is backed up with a statement, in bold caps lock text, at size 70 font and bright pink.

I agree with you completely though, some people just have too much pride in themselves.

yes i have PMed people before!!!

p.s: my grades aren't good, i would've been accepted by cambridge if that was the case
See thats arrogant imo. People with amazing grades still sometimes don't get into Oxbridge. Oh and btw be careful in uni, apparently people have serious preconceptions about medics being arrogant snobs, its something that has actually worried me, I want to be able to socialise with everyone in the uni not just other medics.

It's good. And it's not arrogant. You don't have to read it.

I don't think theres anything wrong with it, just put it in a spoiler so its no forced upon anyone, and they only have to see it if they want to know.
    exactly this!
If someone clicks on the spoiler then they're obviously curious so therefore it isn't really arrogance on the posters part.

    Hmm it bugs me sometimes, just scrolling down a page and seeing nothing but A A A A A A A A A* A* A* A*

I know it's a student forum, but as with every other kind of forum I don't really see the point in basing your sig around the forum. It's the same on musician's forums when everyone just has a lyric by them as their signature/name, and it's like well you've joined up and you're posting and there's an entire website to discuss related things, so I don't think you need to prove that you should be on here, or whatever the reason for doing it is. I'd much rather mix it up a bit with favourite lyrics or links or whatever and get a PM/comment saying "I love that song too" than just someone else saying "Wow we have the same GCSEs!" and me thinking "Well that's nice but GCSEs mean **** all", how much of a conversation can you really have about grades?

I apologise for how rambly and incoherent that was.

This is TSR - it's expected of you. :p:

But seriously, on car forums people have their cars in their sig, on football forums, people have their team and personal football achievements (such as qualified referee levels) in their sig... so on a student forum, it's only natural that you should have your grades / uni course + choices in there, right?!

I reckon its not important if they think too much of themselves, self esteem is healthy. But to flaunt what you think is good about you isn't, because it disregards other people. Keep it to yourself, first of all grades aren't everything. Second of all don't say you haven't got good grades when you've boasted straight As/A*s on your sig and third of all many people would kill to even have a chance at medicine and your publically moaning about not getting into Cambridge? Go home!

Edit: Actually I'm sorry, I don't know you well enough to rant like that, but just think thats what a lot of people's reactions will be

I just don't care either way. I don't read into it too much, although I can't see what purpose it serves other than to show off. And I see nothing wrong with showing off, so fire away.

And you shouldn't care what anybody else thinks. If you want to do it, do it. Just remember, I don't care about your grades and I doubt many other people will.

I find it interesting to compare and see what people are doing. I hide mine, somewhat.

I do the same...it's a student website so I figure you need to put your grades somewhere...but only university stuff in the sig because that's what's relevant for me at the moment :yep:

Could not care less. I don't think I have ever wondered what someones grades were on this forum -- maybe what Uni they go to, but not grades.

    I guess it's ok;
if people want to show off about their grades go ahead.

Personally I don't because I don't see my grades as such a major part of me.
