I have just watched a programme on channel four about the slums in India, not sure what it's called but it showed how they socialised with basically anyone, helped anyone out if need be however we seem to lack that community in Britain now, so what are your views are we civilised?
Views please just fancy starting up summit :P

Depends what you consider 'civilised'. I was hungry earlier, but cooked a pizza instead of a flatmate, does that make me civilised? Or would I only be considered civilised if I shared the pizza with the flatmate I didn't cook?

The word civilised has a very arbitrary definition.

The word 'civilised' has no clear meaning. It differs from person to person. It sort of like the concept of 'morals' which also differ from person to person. Some act that is civilised to one person would be uncivilised to another.
