Yes, and how does Britain fare in comparison to other European nations in terms of abuse of the welfare system?

Britain has a more unequal society than the majority of Europe - the book I've linked to explains how this impacts the population. It's no coincidence that Norway and Sweden, for example, are much more equal societies and don't suffer from these problems on as large a scale as the UK.

"On every indicator of bad behaviour - drugs, drink, violence, promiscuity - the UK was at or near the top, said the Institute for Public Policy Research."

    I don't think it's much of a surprise now.

Because we are a nation of legends, that's why.

Honestly I don't really know. I guess we're just more individualist these days and need instant gratification. I feel there is very little solidarity within the UK.

It's the culture of this country nowadays.

It's partly due to our government being so pussy and having a policy of 'be nice to everyone'.

This lack of authority works it's way down to kids who don't get caught by the police as the police will be put in prison for doing so.
    This.

The government is massively responsible for this, in its gradual outlawing of parental/teacher discipline; permission of trash culture - Big Brother and the X-Factor being iconic examples of such; ass kissing of underclass youths; and a weak youth justice system.
