    rent bedsits for?

I'm looking in my first year to go into private accommodation, just a bedsit with shared kitchen/bathroom. But I'm concerned that I will have to pay 52 weeks of the year when I only want to live there for term time?

What is the normal letting period and is it usual to negotiate letting durations with the landlord?

    Thanks!

I believe you will pay for the whole year, since they aren't going to find anyone who only wants to live there during university holidays.

    It varies in my experience.

Usually uni accomodation is rented for the duration of the academic year (September - June), with the option of paying more if you need it for longer. I suppose this is made up for by their extortionate prices!

I am sure this will vary from uni to uni though. What location are you asking for?

    Leicester and Sheffield

In the former, most bedsits come around the £250 p/cm bills included mark, which is £3000 for a year. Not bad when uni accommodation is more than that for less time, as you say, very expensive!
