    Hi.

I'm going to be travelling across china come June 2010.

What vaccinations do I need? Where do I get them? How much will they be?

Personally I wouldn't bother with Japanese encephalitis and Rabies. Read the risks involved and decide for yourself though. I didn't have to pay for any of the other jabs when I got them, might be different now though. Rabies & Jap. En do cost money though.

Where did you get your jabs done? Did you have insurance? How old were you?

    I didn't get any vaccinations. :P

But I wasn't travelling across China - I was in Hong Kong for two weeks, then took the train up through the border to Guangzhou, and only stayed in the city...

Local clinic, nurse did it, and no I don't (and didn't) have insurance. I was 18 at the time, but still in full time education. I went about 8 months ago while at university to finish my Hep vaccine schedule (it was rushed before and I didn't get the final jab when I returned) and the nurse told me they usually do charge unless your going away for a long period or your in an "at risk" group. I'd already told her that I was traveling for two months so she did it for free, and when asked, mentioned they only charge people going on week long vacations.

I had Hep A and Typhoid done when I went to China, and I had to pay for them. I can't remember how much though, and it seems to be a bit hit and miss between different GP practices whether you do have to pay or not.
