    Im doing "The d block: characteristics of transition metals" and im confused by why chromium and copper are different? why don't they follow the pattern?

    Electronic configuration? It's because having half full and full d-subshells are more stable than the alternative configurations

    so they automatically change their configuration in what suits them best?

    i'm sure if you knew how to calculate the probabilities of finding electrons in those configurations as opposed to the other alternatives, it would be much higher. why this is i haven't a clue
