Ouch (stretching and aching muscles)

I hadn't done much in the way of exercise for 2 weeks 'cos I've been in Mexico, but yesterday I went to my ballet class and probably didn't stretch out properly, because this morning the back of my lags, my claves and my feet hurt so much. I wanted to go running today :frown: Anyone know what I can do to loosen my muscles up a bit?

Do some stretches.

Although you may be better going for a walk into a run, i find with DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness (after weights I find)) that if i do light cardio i don't feel as tight, i then generally go into the full run or activity.
Sounds a bit like what I had.... only my pains were a bit more random.

Try having a nice warm bath... or go for a swim

Hmm, I might go for a swim before my run then  And do you think it happened because I didn't stretch properly? I don't want this happening again!

Quite possibly. Remember also that it's important to 'warm down' after a period of intense physical activity ..

I've been for a swim. I've truly crippled myself now :frown:

Its probably because you just haven't done exercise in a while. I find that if i haven't danced for a while and then do as little as a 45 minute session, i'm crippled in the morning.

I did some work on our cross trainer earlier and didn't stretch out properly afterwards, so I'm in pain now too! :frown:

Exercise is meant to be good for you. And I've got a dancing class this evening :s: My legs might drop off.
Hugs to people in pain!

Awh, I'm going out tonight so don't have the same problem!
Well hopefully it'll get better as you get used to exercising

This is what you get for sitting on your arse on a beach for two weeks =(

Its not about stretching, its believed stetching can help with DOMs, but I've personally found it does sweet-****-all. It happens after long lay-offs from the gym or after particularly intense sesssions. You'll find that once you start doing exercise - once blood starts pumping through your muscles again, the pain will most likely almost completely disappear and you can start exercising again, it takes quite a lot of will power to actually *start* when you're in that much pain though, oh, and it'll come back after you've finished exercising, might even be worse than before, just to warn you

Superb. An hour of ballet should just about finish me off later then!
