    1) Calculate the kinetic energy of a 2s electron ionised from a nitrogen atom by photons with a wavelength of 30nm. The binding energy of a 2s electron in nitrogen in 37.3eV.

    Is there an equation I can use in order to solve this question?

    2) On an energy level diagram sketch the first two vibrational energy and first seven rotational energy levels for HBr.

    Is this a combined rotational vibrational spectroscopy diagram, v=0 and j=0 at the bottom?? If anyone could link me to an example or something that would be helpful.

    Energy must be conserved so:

    I think you calculate the energy of the photon from E = hc/lambda

    You convert the binding energy from eV to joules...

    And then you find the difference.
