Do You Think I am Underweight...

Hey people this is my first post and firstly i just wana say what a great forum you have...

The Reason i am posting is because i am concerned about my weight and it is starting to bother me and i would just like some honest opinions or to see if im underweight or average for my age and build.

Ok well here my details.

130 pounds (about 9 and a half stone)

im 16 yeard old ( and very concerned :-( )

thanks in advance to anyone who could help me out and also any advice on what to eat to gain weight..

Your BMI is 20.7, which is at the low end of the healthy range. As you're only 16 you're probably still growing and so it's not unusual to appear underweight until you've stopped growing and your muscles/fat have caught up with your bones! Don't worry.

To me, you do not sound underweight.
What do you eat in a day, on average? Do you have three square meals and at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables? Because that's what you should be eating. If you are really concerned you should see your GP who may refer you to a nutritionist. I also wanted to say that you have definitely not stopped growing yet, in the next year or so you'll 'broaden out', as they say.

i do eat alot more then anyone else in my family and most of my family are overweight lol. but i do have relatives that are slim.

i would my day off with

Shreddies with sugur and full fat milk (eggs on toast on weekends)
Muffin
ham sandiwch and prob some penut butter on toast later.
crisps
Main meal somthing like speggeti

THEN i have my massive snacking session from about 11 - 3 which includes crisps, pringles, dorritos with dip, my special milkshake with 3 bannans a pint of milk an egg and sum choclate mix and cookies

u r 16 years old and dont expect to look like a man. at such age, most of the ppl are quite skinny.If you dont like your weight, then you can take proteins and work out at gym.

I was much like you last year 16, fast metabolism, quite skinny. i wighed about the same as you, poss a kilo or two more. Since then i started looking at my diet, going gym reguarly. I since have gone up to a tad over 11 stone. My body fat has stayed the same, and i have not grown much since, i was 5'7.5, now 5'8, so i have managed to gain pretty much 1.5 stone of muscle which is a hell of a lot for me. Increase the amounts of meals you have to 6 if possible. Increase the amount of calories you take in, but not sweets, etc. Eat lots of protein packed foods. Try and eat 2grams of protein per kilo of bodywieight each day, so about 120g for you. Also join a gym. Stick to compound exercises, and watch the muscle pile on! Lol! :smile:

You're not underweight!, going by your stats I would guess you are average at the least :confused:

I'm only 10pounds more than you, and i'm 18yo, 6'1, and healthy!!!

well i am 16 and 75kilos and 6ft tall.but i am taking proteins and working out at gym.

aww wow wat great responses thanks everybody... does anyone have any good tips for high protein foods i could manage to eat cause i have dumbells and a workbench in the garage which i could use i just need the right foods

Egg, meat, fish, milk, etc. You say you have dumbells and a bench. Dont be one of those people that only tains chest and biceps! Or even worse...a "bencher"! Make sure you incorporate compound exercises, e.g. squats, deadlifts, dips, etc.

LOL awww lil j you got my number all i do is chest shoulders and biceps ..

I also have a trampoline.. should i limit going on that because i might loose weight..?

Exercise in moderation is NEVER a bad thing. I think the main issue is just that your body is growing faster than your muscles so you are a bit skinny. Keeping healthy is still important though.

If you are trying to pack on wieght/muscle and bulk up, then ideally you would do little cardio, allowing as much as possible of your calories to be used for gaining muscle, but if you just trampoline for fun, then it shouldnt affect you much. Im serious though! If you want to bulk up, then start working all of your body. For a start, you probs work shoulders, chest and biceps several times a week? If so, its too much, and your overtraining, not giving them enough time to recover and grow, and in that time you could work all your other muscles. If you want to get big, do "big" exercises with v.heavy weights. These will hit lots of muscles in one go. All you really need are deadlifts, squats, wide grip pull ups, and bench. This will do most of your muscles already, and if you feel you need to target any other muscles, e.g. posterior deltoid, biceps more, you can do isolation exercises for them too. BTW, even if you stuck with your program, and DID bulk up (unlikely tbh), you would look silly, with big chest, shoulders and biceps, but nothing else! :smile:

If what you've written is really your normal diet, you will soon weigh more than you want to! I'm afraid it is very unhealthy and I guess the reason you are still very slim means that either you are very active or still growing (or both). You should lower your fat-intake (have a look at how many gramms of fat things have/100g) to max 40-50g/day. Carbohydrates (bread,noodles, rice, tatties etc.) are good and should be a main source of energy. Sugars are carbs as well of course, but much too easy for the body to access. In the long run (years and years!!) you could become a diabetic with your current diet. It is better to take at least 30% wholemeal (taste ucky, I know) carbs, because then the bloodsugarlevel doesn't rise as fast. Protein will help you build up muscles and don't forget the "5 a day"-> 5 helpings of fruit or vegs one can also be an unsweetened fruit juce.
By the way why are you worrying about your weight? Has it changed recently? Has someone remarked on it?

leisure17 and lil j thanks for the great info and yer someone did remark i was kinda skinny which was kinda annoying cause i thought i was `average` but hey i spose ill grow.

lesisure i always look on the back of packets and things but im never sure wat to buy. i eat 2 packs of pistacio nuts a day do get heavier in them 2 packs they contain 100grams of fat alone and about 26grams of protein but im not sure what foods are high in calories but not fatty because i have been trying to eat 2500 calories a day. but only getting to around 2000 do you have and ideal foods? i will also try to eat pasta and noodles to more often.

lil j i am genna try and follow that plan i work out on aveage every other day but im ALWAYS on the trampoline i love it i can now do a full forward summersault! but that is the ONLY exercise i do apart from reaching for the remote control.

my friend also suggest smoking weed to increase my apatite which i did do for quite sum time and i did eat 3 times as more but just fatty snacky foods so im not rele sure.

i have alot of access of what food i can buy at the shops but im just not sure shall i look for calories over fat?
