Hey up, I'm interested to get people's opinions on the setting of Ulysses.

I believe that there is multiple settings, starting at his home and then moving to the port. However, that would only be correct assuming Ulysses is literally encouraging his mariners to embark on another journey. I'm aware that other people deem Ulysses to be indulging in a fantasy and that in actual fact, he's lying on his death-bed during the poem.

I liked that poem. Poets from the past were soo much more talented that our modern poets like Carol-ann Duffy and Benjamin Zephenia.

Did you interpret the poem to be about him literally embarking on another journey, or do you consider it to be a mere fantasy?
