# Problem integrating some triganomic identities, please help! (C4 old spec) watch

1. I'm having problems integrating some identities, currently on exercise 6C of the edexcel book.

My problem is that I don't know what to do when I encounter sin(x)/cos^2(x).

For example integrating 1-sin(x)/cos^2(x)

What I do is:-

1/cos^2(x) - sin(x)/cos^2(x)

sec^2(x) - tan(x)sec(x)

I don't know how to get rid of the tan(x) so that I can integrate.

Thanks for any help

Neil
2. You don't need to get rid of the tan(x). Do you know of any functions that differentiate to tan(x)sec(x)?
3. Ah of course - sec(x) + C.

Thanks for that!
