Although being brought up in a poor family has made me view money in a different light to these people.
Different, yes. Not better (or worse). You view money as something that should be saved because you have very little of it; they don't need to worry about that, and so don't, just like you wouldn't in their shoes. They're not 'wrong'.

    (Original post by Maestro*)
It's not plain jealousy, more about equality and being on a level playing field. It's not about being 'rich'.
Life isn't equal or on a level playing field, and it never has been, I'm afraid. If you think that's a good idea, I advise you to look up communism and find out what kind of **** that causes in practice.

    Edit:
    (Original post by Maestro*)
Don't most people 'strive to be rich' .... err no, that's just a solely selfish attitude.
Yeah... is that a bad thing? Most people are selfish, but selfishness isn't bad unless you're selfish to the detriment of others.

Yes it is as it's that attitude that spreads across society which is seeing inequality across all walks of life, hence why society has so many problems today. So being selfish is to the detriment of others.

So yes, I am pissed off at them as their relationship with money is not wired up properly. Of course if I was them with rich parents I'd be on those trips, but I'm not so I was brought up to view money differently. It's not plain jealousy, more about equality and being on a level playing field. It's not about being 'rich'.

Don't most people 'strive to be rich' .... err no, that's just a solely selfish attitude.
Equality? That's like saying they shouldn't go on the trip because they should be equal to mainstream society. Life is simply not a level-playing field.

Eh, they're the same kind of kids who come to University and never shut up about their gap year for the first month and how they've been to Thailand, and to America, and to Hong Kong etc etc. While simultaneously failing to realise how lucky they are that they can live off their parents in such a way and see so much of the world at such an early age.

They're everywhere, you just have to deal with it.

So they shouldnt enjoy themselves because you can't afford to?

As long as a society makes sure they do also have affordable things as well, its all good. Or if they only have expensive trips, as long as they make it clear when members join.

Just think though - you don't have to be rich to travel - once you've bought the flights you can travel though Asia and South America for surprisingly little, and can gain just as many experiences as these people at uni, if not more! Or you could work for a bit longer and then travel around the world! Then who'd be jealous? One of these people could boast about a 2-week skiing trip in America or Canada or something now, but then in time you could be going on about your backpacking trip through Asia or around the world, and all the fabulous experiences you've had...! It doesn't cost that much to travel through Europe, either, or have minibreaks or weekends away there
    point made..?
Flights to Asia are about 500 return minimum. Of course it's cheaper per day to backpack than to go skiing but my friends that went to Asia on a seriously tight budget for a month spent over a grand (including flights to be fair).

OP just be happy you're even at uni! And get a job in the summer and save to go travelling or backpacking like FormerlyHistoryStudent suggested.

No but I don't think the OP is annoyed that they are going on trips, but they're ATTITUDE to it. It is true that a lot of students don't realise how lucky they are and are terrible at saving money because they know they have a steady supply from home and thus don't recognise or learn the true value of it.

Is the rich kids who seem to be going on every trip abroad organised by their societies for example, that are like £400 and having to deal with their snobbish attitude and bragging of it on Facebook. Knowing that my parents couldn't ever afford a £400 trip for me and that these rich kids are living off their parents' wallet and in doing so are able to go on as many trips aboard as they want and have good varying experiences whilst meeting new people.

Does it piss anyone else off?
do you go to Surrey by any chance? lol

Yeah I feel the same. If anything though it makes me more determined to become rich myself.
