If your university course doesn't include a year in industry, is it still possible to opt to take a year away from studies to complete an internship?

You can temporarily withdraw at a lot of unis but you have to speak with people about why youre doing this etc. and make sure its okay. And the internships/placement schemes need to be applied for months and months in advance so youd need to ensure your uni allows you to take the time out before hand. Plus your course could change during the year youre out e.g. dont depend on the same module choices for the final year youre given before you go to be the same when you return.
