I had several done inside. (not uretha) It was just swabs she just wizzed a thing round inside me. Loads less awkward than the actual smear which she needed me to be in an actual position for.

Maybe they were checking for different things?
I have a sheet telling me what they were testing for and exactly which ones were being tested in which places.
I'd personally say it was more intrusive.

My doctor sent me for one - he said because i had been sexually active for almost 5 years its important to get it done - i thinks its best to get it done now than wait till mid twenties

And it really does depend on the nurse - my friend had hers done recently and she was in sooo much pain - i just felt nervous but no pain

erm one was for chlamydia I know she told me that. i don't remember what the other ones were for can't remember but they were all negative so who cares. They were just a lot quicker than the actual smear when she did the smear bit it actually hurt the swabs didn't hurt at all.
I mean its never going to be completely ok when you are on the table with your legs spread and a doctor messing up your bits but it wasn't painful.

I had (or attempted to have) an internal examination recently, and I cried with the pain when the doctor inserted the speculum. I asked her to stop because I couldn't bear it. When I told my mum about it later, she said she found internal exams very painful and bled after smear tests  Maybe I have a very low pain threshold or was simply unlucky with the doctor?
