What should I wear for a uni interview? watch

    • Thread Starter

I recently got an interview at Manchester Uni and was told to dress smart casual.
Problem is, I honestly have no idea what that means. What is acceptable smart casual for a guy at a uni interview? Are jeans acceptable?

    Not sure really.

When I've had job interviews and so forth, I've usually worn something like black skinny jeans, a shirt and maybe a jumper/cardigan. Since Manchester Uni is quite prestigious, I'd personally wear relatively formal black clothing. (Yes I'm a guy)

As long as you don't dress like you have no respect for the interviewers, it shouldn't really matter
Jeans can be acceptable, as long as they are relatively new and don't have any holes in them. If you go for jeans, combine it with a casual jacket to still make it more than what you'd wear hanging on the couch. The most important thing is to pick something you feel comfortable in, it will show if you don't feel good. I think it might also be different for each subject, for Law go more smart, for things like History or Sciences I'd imagine they care less.

Smart casual = Nice, new jeans + shirt/jumper.

no jeans, that's casual. Just invest in a formal jacket and trousers. Or Just a a nice shirt and formal trousers with jumper or cadigan is usually smart looking

I would always interpret smart casual as something smart (so for me I'd wear a shirt {a fashion one is fine} and smart trousers {either suit trousers or smart jeans}). Basically it means something smart, but not as far as jacket and tie.
Have you ever experienced racism/sexism at uni?
