    This is what i think. Cause they use "stray" i am thinking that wisdom is another word for rubbish and he gets it wherever he wondered off to where he wasn't supposed to?

    This is only my opinion but I think it means that you can't really gain wisdom from just hearing words of wisdom which are available all around us. It has to be experienced personally.
