Navel Piercing Gone Wrong

My sister had her navel pierced last week and it was wonky, so my mum had her take it out then took it back to get it pierced again today at the same place. The girl did it wonky again, so she repierced it straight away. When my sis came home, there was hardly any skin between the two ends of the bar. You could see a silver shadow through her skin, which was the bar, because the piercing was so shallow. I made her take it out, because it was obviously going to migrate and reject. She's now got three holes in her stomach. It looks awful. :vmad:

She originally paid £45 to get it done, and they redid it for free. I've banned her from going back to this place - it's a beauty salon, not a real piercers. I told my mum to go back and get a refund and compensation, but she's too much of a wimp. I'll happily go in and complain and threaten to take them to court until I get a full refund, because my sister's stomach is a complete mess and this woman shouldn't be let loose with a needle again.

Can I demand a refund? Can I get some compensation for my sis? Anyone know anything about it? I am totally willing to phone them up now but my mum won't let me; I can't believe they've ruined my sister's stomach like this. :vmad:

Thanks guys

I'd say get a mic taped on you. Go in there claiming you're 14 and want your belly button pierced without telling your parents. When they agree, you can sue the asses of off those bastards!

Good idea, no?

Beauty salons do body piercings these days? I just thought they did cheap ear piercings with a gun?

Did your sister/mum sign something? Take a look at the wording carefully.

You are definitely entitled to demand a refund, I can't believe they haven't offered her one. Dunno about compensation though.

Im sure you can demand a refund Lauren, as it did not turn out the way it was expected to be. Bring your sister back along with you and scream, shout and threaten with a solicitor it should work wonders  :p: if all else fails do send them a solicitors letter xoxo

i would have thought u'd b entitled 2 a refund. they wouldnt want u 2 take it further so they should happily do it. if she wants it done again though, i'd make ur sis wait a bit 2 let the old ones heal

Go back, cause a fuss, and demand a refund at the very least. The navel is a funny area, especially for girls - I'd never get mine pierced, as it could get infected with disastrous consequences. Make sure your sister keeps it clean and covers it with antiseptic.

The fact that she's paid £45 and hasn't got what she wanted is enough to warrant getting a refund. The fact that these people have allowed someone crap to pierce a young girl's navel is inexcusable, and they shouldn't get away with it.

How old is your sister?
demand a refund and compensation, and if they say no, tell them they will go the the authorites or something

You should take your sister to your GP. I'm sure he'd be extremely interested in how her navel ended up looking like a rabbit-warren. Especially if it DOES become infected.

My sister is 13  She went with my mum, and she looks about 21, but a decent piercer would check ID and not touch anyone under 16 with or without parents.

I think I'll take her back tomorrow.

Edit: not to get repierced! I'm making her wait two months for that.
If she ev er does get it pierced then make sure she goes to a proper piercing studio! You can find a good one here. However, with the amount of scar tissue there will be I think it would be extremely unlikely that she ever can get it done again.

She took them out straight after she got them pierced: is there likely to be a lot of scar tissue?

Yes, basically.

Go to a proper studio, as Mark suggests, as they have much more in depth training. If there is scar tissue but a small area left available to pierce, these are the people who'll find it. They'll also refuse to do it if it's unsafe.

Did you see a certificate at the beauty parlour?

exsqueeze me if im offending sum people, but i think piercings r the most disgusting things in the world (ok, i could forgive a girl with ear piercings), but in the nose?? eughhhh..... nasty. unless of course she was going 4 the goth look, in which case it wudnt look out of place but still......euuughhhh
Make sure she cleans it thoroughly with a good antiseptic twice a day for quite a while. It will greatly reduce the chances of infection. Then you might want to see whether you can get one of those ointments for scar reduction - it might help heal the skin. You could try using something like bio-oil. It might not work, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Quite how that's so relevant in this advice thread is beyond me, but fair enough, if that's your opinion, that's your opinion.

1) demand a refund and point to the damage. Try using the phrase 'assault' because thats what it is whena doc screws up something...
2) I can be profess amazment at the utter sillyness of your mother. Of all the non-intimate piercings, naval ones are most likely to go wrong, and have nastiest results if they do. You don't want an amateur doing it.

I don't think they should have repierced it anyway. Shouldn't it be completely healed before it's repierced?

And if a parent is consenting and present with their child then a piercing is fine. My mum and i had to show ID when i had mine done to prove she was my mum though. xx

probablary not alot but it wont look the same, especially if she ever puts on/loses weight. (ie preggers for instance)

That's completely irrelevant and no one asked for your opinion. Plus, it was navel piercings, not nose piercings. Read before shouting off.

They should have waited before repiercing it. They did the same thing with my other sister's navel - did it wonky first time, and my mum demanded they re-do it. I can't blame my mother for letting them get it redone, she doesn't know anything about piercings. But I shouted at her for taking my sis to this place - I told her it was crap, and she should have listened to me.

A piercing like that would be classed as actual bodily harm if it was done without consent! The poor girl looks like a pin cushion.
