Marking of exam papers.
While at work today I noticed a woman marking exam scripts in a supermarket carpark. She was using the steering wheel as a prop and had the window open. I caught a brief glimpse of the paper and it was actually an essay style paper - which would surely need the full attention of the marker...
I thought that all marking had to be done in a private place such as the house of the marker? I'm quite disgusted really...
Should I email QAA or is it pointless to bother doing so?

QAA won't care... it's not like you know who it is and what are they going to do about it? there's not much that can be done except 24/7 camera surveillance on the exam markers, lol!
could be just a practise paper done at a school though... doesn't necessarily mean that it's the actual exam board papers now does it!!!
there's absolutely no reason for you to be too concerned over it... your hardly going to have to write another essay again in if your going to do maths at uni!

What school does practice exam papers at this time of the year and on the official paper (I caught sight of a page full of writing on one of the supplementary sheets and there looked to be a few sheets of paper underneath it).

Does it matter what i'm doing at university? I'm still appalled at what I saw. Just because I prefer maths does that make it okay for markers to mark papers with only half their mind on the job?
yeah... but you don't actually know for sure that they were marking exam papers, your just assuming it!!!

tbh with you, i don't have a lot of faith in essay style questions anyways and don't think it's that the mark scheme is fair, particularly for bio, so i am not too concerned if one marker is marking in a car! it's not that bad now assuming what your saying is true!

It's perfectly possible that it was a practice exam paper - I started doing A2 practice papers at this time last year, and we often used official answer booklets and so on. Given the tick-box nature of most mark schemes nowadays, why should an essay paper require more attention than any other paper? And presumably inside her own car counts as a private place. She'd notice if anyone were trying to read over her shoulder.

I've known teachers take on more scripts than they can really handle, while the term is still going, and they have family commitments, purely for financial reasons. The boards push markers to accept as many scripts as possible, because they are often very short of markers in certain areas.

This does not excuse markers who mark scripts in cars, trains, restaurants, airport lounges, particularly since they are instructed specifically not to!
... but it might cast a little light on why they do it.
