What's really pathetic is that the Democratic candidate was surviving in the polls until she ****ed up and called a Boston Red Sox player a Yankee player on some radio show.

See the blue line taking a sudden plunge at the last moment?

    Lovely.

George W. Bush runs America into the ground, most Americans seem content to die without adequate healthcare, working their asses off just to cover themselves for a bad cold, hoping they don't get fired or their house repossessed.

Obama gets elected...a mere man but a damn site better and an improvement over the last government.

Americans are howler monkeys, any and every reform that could improve their lives and make America better are shouted down in stupid "tea parties" as 'un-american' and 'socialist'.

God America sometimes you are soooooo ******* stupid. T_T

But whatever, enjoy your capitalist utopia, I'm sure it will be worth it when you develop cancer or something, lose your job, cant afford healthcare and what-not. I mean really...look at your country and tell me its as good as it can be.

As for me, being a dirty European, I will wallow in my socialist hell, oh woe is me, having free healthcare, a welfare support system should I get a disability or get fired, oh the horror as my government actually fulfils its basic contractual obligations and actually gives back to the people who support it and the economy.

Common logic America. You pay taxes no matter what, so why shouldn't those taxes go to providing some services and support for you?

Oh that's right, because its Socialist. some socialist policies = Stalin.

Communism fell because it was an authoritarian extreme to one end of the political-economic spectrum.

Guess what, extremes either way are not good for anyone.

Lovely over here in the middle-ground.

Not all Americans are shrieking tea party idiots and I'd appreciate it if you didn't tar us all with the same brush. Plenty of polls have shown that a majority of people would like there to be a state-run alternative to our utterly retarded healthcare system. Unfortunately we just elect a lot of corrupt ****s who run their campaigns with funding from the current healthcare industry and until that changes nothing else will.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying but please stop generalising millions of people based on a vocal but cretinous minority.

I'm frankly astonished. Massacheussetts electing a Republican? What is this ********?

Boston is the most liberal city in the entire US, or at least is reputed to be.

    ******* Republicans.
Well MA had Mitt Romney as Governor. The Senate Democratic candidate was awful. Just awful.

The Republican has pretty left leaning record locally. Although nationally (which is what the Senate job will entail) he is rather more right wing. I don't think voters considered this, but you can't blame them for not supporting such a poor Democratic candidate. Ironic to consider Ted Kennedys (Health care reforms Big daddy) seat will be taken by someone who may kill it.

Hopefully the House will just pass the Bill that the Senate already passed without amending it and sending it back to Senate where it will effectively be killed at this point. Something is better than nothing.

Americans are an absolute bunch of dicks
They vote a man into power then vote against the reforms which they voted him in for.

The yanks live up to their stereotype of being dense as ****.

The expect him to rectify ALL the wrongs made by **** dubya in ONE YEAR! - They don't want to allow the 45 million people who have no healthcare to have it. This country is torn in two. They should spilt up and have done with it. Democrats to rule one section, the idiotic repubs the other!

All becuase they dont want a health care system like the UK NHS.

Which has doctors who actually care whether you get better without checking your wallet first.
It also happens to be the best health care service in the world.

I mean who would what that kind of system?!?! I cant blame them its sounds horrible!

Obama wasn't proposing an NHS system in any case.

The American system needs reform not abolishment. I much rather have insurance and patient choice rather than the NHS.

    True. It was propaganda.

Yeah, we got that too. It's called Bupa.
BUPA doesn't compare with the degree of patient choice that most Americans expect. From whom they see, to treatments. Also you are effectively forced to pay for the NHS. Even if you opt out. It's effectively a monopoly.

Yes it is way better to have a system where if you go to the emergency room you have to sit around waiting while they sort out all the insurance forms to make sure they can get money for fixing you!!! a great system

As long as you stop calling the UK, England, than we have a deal. :P

And whether they are a minority or not they are very vocal and very facepalm worthy.

Seriously, if you guys decide to deport them to a pacific atoll and accidentally drop a nuke on it, Europe promises to look the other way. :P

Didn't mean any sweeping generalizations, just a slip of attention to vocabulary on my part.

It looks like the Obamamania is finally taking its toll. He was by far the most anticipated leader of all time and has now turned into the world's greatest disappointment.

Oh well, at least now everyone knows, no we ******* can't.

aye Bupa, pru, aviva offer healthcare too...there's that one which advertises on TV saying "why not bother us, we care", or something along those lines.

I really don't understand why their all against it? I assume some Americans like the fact their doomed to starve or die. Taking that into account his policy shouldn't offend them as even with his current plans, the desperately poor still won't be able to afford his healthcare as far as I understand it. It'll help small businesses who find the costs too high and lower middle to middle class who may just be out of reach of affording it, especially if their premiums rocket when they get a chronic condition.

Our system isn't the best but I've talked with a fair few Americans on forums, most of them seem to think we have it better, even if waiting times can be rather longer for non life threatening ailments.
