    Hi,

I'll be starting uni in September and I've begun looking at accomodation etc. Being 21, however, I would prefer to accomodate with students my age or, if possible, have my own single bedroom flat (with kitchen and possibly shower) as I like my privacy and/or prefer to be without people my age or slightly older as I socialise with people a bit older than me.

How do I go about accommodation with my age or a single flat?

Many unis offer this. Call their accommodation office and explain your situation- they'll know the area extremely well as accommodation offices in universities help students find private accommodation as well.

Well I want to live on the campus accommodation so shall I just give them a buzz and see what they have to say?

Definitely. Just give them a call, explain your situation, and see what they have to say.
There may be a chance you'll be put with postgrads; I know this has happened to a few 'mature' students that I know - but even if not, they'll be understanding of your situation.

You certainly won't be the only person who's ever been in this position. Good luck!

I agree, give them a call.
Lots of unis offer studio flats, which basically include kitchen, bathroom but still on campus and near all the other halls/sharing flats.

Thanks for the answers. I've got the info I needed really. I'll give them a call about it, see what can be done.

Edit: Do the studio flats have a small living room type thing or is it all one room?

[EDITED] oh...flat in campus, i suppose studio flats are a bonus. no bills and living by yourself. just disturbance of other people above, beside or below you or outside

Edit: Just found some pictures and the Studio flats look really nice and just what I'm looking for. Think I'll go for them.

I don't have anything to add but I was starting to wonder the same thing (I'll turn 21 in July) so thanks for bringing this up I guess.

I was thinking of staying in halls the first year anyway as I had so much fun before, I just run the risk of being lumped with a load of overly immature people. I was the youngest person in my halls last time and there was still some very '................. wat?' moments.

    DECISIONS. NOoooooooooooooo

I was 20 when I moved into halls and my university thoughtfully put me with a group of other 19/20/21 year olds. There will be other people your age, so it's worth asking whether you can be put with them. Studio flats will be expensive and possibly a bit isolated. Despite being a bit of an introvert I really appreciated having people round

I'll get thinking. Just came across a problemo though: I live bang on the edge of the 35 mile radius of one uni and I think I live in the greater area of Essex for the other meaning I may be illegible for accomodation.

http://www.uel.ac.uk/residential/wanting/index.htm - I answered yes to 1 and 3 and live in Chelmsford

http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/ho..._accommodation - I live right on the circle edge =/

Can I get around that somehow cos travelling to Cambridge every day would be a mission and I want to live at least near to the campus.

Post your request up on accommodation such as Gumtree, I believe a lot of people might be interested.
