Are you drinking a lot of alcohol? I get that if I've had a particularly excessive week/fortnight.

Surprisingly not! I've not had any excess amounts of alcohol since about 2 weeks ago. :frown:

It's not fat. I have the same things, for hours after I ate. When you wake up in the morning and you're hungry, it's flat. Sit ups etc won't help, it's just bloated, looking like you're 3 months pregnant but it's food/water. No biggie.

well... sit ups can't do any harm though...

you could just wait and see if it goes away by itself I guess...

500 isn't that much

like if she's just starting with sit ups then she can do 500 - just not all at once (which she won't be able to do anyway). Just break it up with lots of rests inbetween - like do some in the morning, some in the afternoon and then some in the evening. Just doing 20 a day will not get you anywhere I would think...

500 if you're not used to exercising is a bloody lot.

i kind of have that.... im telling myself its cute tho so i dont stress out over it :p: and also telling myself every day that wen i start uni this year i *will* do lots of running so it goes haha.

about 2 years ago wen i was putting on lots of weight (going from intensive training 3 times a week to absolutely nothing has a not so surprising effect..) i tried doing the whole sit ups thing to get rid of my belly but to be honest it just made things worse!!!!
it was like.. i was building up muscle under my belly but my fat was still there as i wasnt doing anything to actually burn it off so i just looked even more pregnant than before.... and it kind of went when i swore i would never do sit ups again lol.

i would say stick to cardio if u want to get rid of it. also gives ur abs a nice toned shape rather than an x pack (wat number do u give girls?... 4 i think... hmm..)

but mine is more solid than flabby... it is a bit flabby but not a lot.. i seem to be permanantly bloated to an extent.. should i get this checked out? :s-smilie:

Does anyone else have this? I'm not actually pregnant but my belly is starting to look slightly as if i am . Its not fat or anything its just a sort of small bump forming lower down on my stomach. Its really scary actually  Anyone know how to get rid of it or what would cause it?

Beer belly? :p:

Please be careful of giving out diagnoses on here - it's possible she has IBS but it's also quite unlikely that she does unless there are other symptoms aside from the bloating. It might be water retention for any reason.

Of course, I completely agree with you - hence the reason I said may. As someone who has actually suffered from IBS in the past, one of the initial symptoms can be bloating....in fact, this is the only symptom I had to begin with. I purposely provided a link so she could check it out for herself, and to be honest, I think my advice was a lot more helpful than 'do 500 sit ups a day'!

i have that...got so freaked out i took a test...

am trying to tone myself up atm hoping it will go away...doing a mixture of sit ups and other exercises..

is it true that starchy foods make you more bloated?

If its just 'flab', then 500 sit-ups a day is a bad idea. Because if you don't do them properly, you can seriously damage your back.

When I started doing sit-ups, I did 20, then 30, then 40 etc etc. Until I did 100 a day. I never did more than that. After the initial period, I slowed down and now do 50 a day. That is more than enough to keep my stomach flat and my muscles strong.

Things that will bloat you: eating on the move, eating something that your body is less tolerant to (for example my mother bloats if she eats too much bread) etc etc. Look it up on google, and perhaps work few a through of them just to test.

You know, it could have something to do with your diet. Do you eat "raw" things like salads and uncooked veg in the evening? Fruit can be a problem as well.
Maybe you could try eating very little and only easily digestible food (light protein, a few carbs) in the evening. I'd give it a try. Eating less in the evening would also help if it's due to fat.
All in all I think it does not sound much like something that "has to be treated".

yeh i have that!

Lose weight/tone up. OR get pregnant for real then you won't look strange.

Reply 36

play it up as if you are pregnant! Hold your belly and go around saying - 'its jsut starting to show now' you never know - you could get some free stuff or a seat! :P

I get this sometimes, it's usually when I'm feeling bloated or when I'm pre-menstrual. I think it's normal for your stomach to swell up a bit before your period?

for the 103893th time, doing a gazillion frigging situps will not lose fat on your stomach!!
