I work as a security guard/receptionist and the staff of the building keep smoking just outside my front doors.

I know that this is an eyesore and irritating for any visitors/non-smokers but there is no alternative place to do it. ( I work just off of Oxford Street-very busy). There is a small canopy which overhangs from the building which they like to smoke under when it rains but I do not think this is legal.

Also is there not a requirement of how distant you should be from the premises in order to smoke??

Any help appreciated, I consulted the smokefree website but its confusing me!

    What about entrances to buildings?

Outside areas are not covered by the legislation. However, managers may want to consider making it a policy that smoking is not permitted within a certain distance of the front of their companies’ buildings or main entrance. You may not find it desirable to have a constant stream of smokers taking their smoking break in your building’s main entrance, which will mean that staff and visitors to your company have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get into the building. This will also avoid the litter problem of discarded cigarette butts outside your entrance.

I wanted some sort of distance seeing as they are blatantly smoking in people's faces and when you ask them to move you get the coldest stares!

I will negotiate it with the building manager...cheers

You are so damn fast on threads I swear.

Besides I have to make the building look 'presentable'. Its my job  ...I personally don't like going in the rain when I have a cheeky fag either.
