natwest overdraft for first year is something like 1250.

first term 500, then increased to 1000, then 1250
(or at least thats how i understood it)

now i know that we need to apply for the overdraft again for our second year etc. but should it have automatically increased to 1000 by now? or do i have to go into the bank and ask them to increase it now

You need to ask them to increase it for you.

Dont like that bank since they stopped my overdraft without correctly contacting me (ie ringing me on the only number i gave them... my email.. or address which i was registered at to get mail)... then demanding payment... giving me bad credit score

They are within their rights to remove your overdraft at any point they like. Such is life.
