How about Hydogenperoxide? (I'm not quite sure whether this is harmful to the ear or not)

Eardrops don't really help. Take a good dose of paracetamol (not more than 6x500mg in 24hrs) and keep your head/ears warm.(hat, scarf)
Putting in drops could harm your ear if your eardrum is perforated (for instance through the current infection or an old one; you can have that without knowing it).
You dan distinguish between an "outer infektion" of the ear and an "inside" (=beyond the eardrum) Infektion by trying this. Press on the bit of your ear that "shields" the entrance to your ear ( medial term is tragus). If that hurts then it is almost certainly an infektion of the outer part of the ear and all in all less dangerous. If that does not hurt signifikantly then the infektion might be deeper in the ear. You could use antibiotics then. Nosedrops can help your ear to be ventilated and a swelling in and around the ear will go down slightly.
i have had ear problems since i was little and have found that paracetemol really does not help me at all. whenever I go to the doctor, he just gives me ear drops... it seems to work quite well, but thats just the ear ache, not the hearing. I've got an awful ringing in the ear atm, does that mean anything?
Only stuff for ear wax really, and if you're in pain then you'd be advised to go to the doctors ... do you not have an NHS walk in centre or an emergency doctors?
not near here

but hey! my parents are now saying that somehow its my fault and are just not helpping! argh! :frown:
It's a shame your parents wouldn't be willing to take you to an emergency doctor/walk in centre ... I'm sure there'd be one within driving distance ... if you rang your doctor's surgery the answerphone message might have the phone number of the nearest place.

Alternatively, ring NHS Direct. Do you reckon if they told you that you needed to see a doctor then they'd be more willing to take you?
not by the way they're feeling at the moment lol! Oh well, guess i'll just ring up on monday... I'll have an appointment by wednesday
go to the chemist... there are some things that clean your ears and stuff and im sure there is something that can help you!
they'd be able to give you better advice i think

You could also take Naproxen or another NSAR instead of Paracetamol. It kills the inflammation off a bit.
It is not advisable to stick things/stuff into your ears. And yes- pain always means that something is wrong and you should be seeing a doctor.

If she's in pain then she needs to be referred to a doctor.

Naproxen is prescription only here ... what's an NSAR? The German for NSAID?
Try holding a hot water bottle/heat pad on your ear. That should help a bit.

NSAR= nicht steroidales antirheumatikum, so yes it's an NSAID.

In Germany you can get them OTC in low doses (200mg) and then you just take 2x2 pills if necessary. We can't get medicines with codein OTC though.

Of course it must be mentioned that they can cause stomach ulcers and are not to be used if your kidneys don't work properly. In general they should not be taken over a longer period, a few days usually is ok.

Heat brings on an inflammation, cold will keep it down. Still with ears things are a bit different and I would not put a cold pack on my ear. Light warmth (a towel that has been heated in the oven for a few minutes or so) can be nice.
If it's a wax problem you ca use olive oil. If not then wait to see the doc.

Or if you're allergic to aspirin, I think? In the case of ibuprofen definitely, and also they should be taken with a meal in case they upset your stomach.

Yes. Everyday olive oil warmed a bit (not hot and frying!)
