Well usually by not widely recommended, they generally mean some evidence has come up or some protocol has changed which means the standard treatment is no longer to use that thing. Its not a harmful chemical, especially used on the skin (ffs people drink the stuff as a laxative). Im sure if you hunt hard enough you can find some, dont know where though... perhaps try a bigger pharmacy?

Apparently (and this is read from a thread on the oil cleansing method on another forum) pregnant women were taking castor oil to bring on labour early so the pharmacies all have it behind the counter now (if at all). Castor oil isn't a skincare product traditionally, it's a laxative. Try some independent chemists, ie not Boots, and you might have to explain that you want it for skincare.

Castor Oil is great for both skin and hair, I know boots doesn't sell it so try small independant pharmacies they may suprise you. I worked in several over the summer and every one I went to had Castor Oil.
