it's confusing

it says i have to do the first derivative test and second derivative test. i don't know what they is!

i'm sure i can do it, but the names confuse me

I think it's to find the local minima/maxima, and whether and where a graph/function is increasing/decreasing.

If I remember correctly:

The first derivative test is to find out whether a graph of a function is increasing, decreasing or stationary at a given point...differentiate once

The second derivative test means differentiating twice to find out whether a stationary point is a local minima, maxima or turning point

poor mummy hopefully things will have improved, otherwise maybe the hospital would have collapsed by now?
