Are all the potato cores wrapped up in moist paper towel? Cos it may do with the fact that it stops osmotic entry or gain of water into the potatoes?

Isn't it to stop any water loss via evaporation that may effect the results making them invalid? Something like that. We did that ISA a while ago.

Water will evaporate off the potato, so the moist paper towel prevents that from happening, making sure, that during the experiment, only one variable is changed at a time. Also, if water is lost through evaporation, the osmotic gradient will change, so if you are doing an experiment on osmosis, it will muck up your results..

...Yeah that sounds more sensible haha
