well exeter is 9th in the league tables and sussex is 35th - but then meant bugger all to me when I picked my choices

Which uni did you like the best? Did you visit both? Why di you think you should have firmed sussex?

Hiya, I am in my second year of study and was in the same situation when I was applying. I put Nottingham as my firm and Greenwich as my insurance to begin with, but then worried that Nottingham would be too far away for me... I had also paid a £200 deposit on accommodation at Nottingham!
However, I rang UCAS and explained my situation, and they changed this for me. I assume they got permission from both universities, but as I had obviously been accepted to both this was no problem. I also got my deposit back from Nottingham which was a result!

Although Greenwich is not so great in the league tables compared to Nottingham, for my subject it is brilliant and I am happy knowing I made the right decision. Although positions in the league tables are a good indication, you will make your degree what you want it to be, and embarking on a degree should not be a decision made lightly, so make sure you are 100% happy with your choice!

You should also keep in mind that your first year doesn't count towards your degree classification, and I have a lot of friends who have completed their first year at one uni and gone off to another to complete their actial degree because they were not happy.

I hope this helps you in some way any questions, just ask!

Well that's what i was thinking when i chose Exeter and Southampton. Sussex has slightly easier conditions to meet than Exeter. Its just got everything really. Might not be quite up to Exeter's academic standard but im thinking it might be the place il be happiest living in for 3 years.
I think that you need to make your decision relatively quickly if you think you made need to change your decision, you should consider overall which course content/structure you like the best or which place you most want to be and combine the pros and cons and come to a decision. tbh I'd probably leave league table out of the equation unless there's deadlock - because all in all, IMO anyway, they are the least important consideration on your degree choice

Try and make sure you really are doing the right thing this time.

For others reading this thread, UCAS gives you plenty of time to think about this decision (the earliest deadline isn't until May) and there is not need at all to rush into it without clearly thinking it through. It is, after all, a decision that could shape the rest of your life and will make a big difference to the next three or four years.

I think it is definitely important to go for somewhere you'll be happy over somewhere higher in the league tables. There's no point going to somewhere ranked higher overall if you're not happy there, as you won't do so well which will undermine it anyway! If you're happy you'll get better grades. Also the rankings are for overall - look for your course, the research priorities in the department, student surveys of teaching etc.

I went to Sussex so am biased but it is great - and it is a very different vibe from Exeter!
