OK it does sound wrong reading it back, but what I ment was when I see a balck person say, I always worry that I might say somethign that for him would sound racist?? but actually they don't find it racist! hard to explain...but black/asian people are cool though I have nothing against them, I've backed them up so many times against people (where I come from, there is a lot of racism...well wouldnt call it a lot either, just slezzy comment) Not many asians/blacks live where I live, none acctaully, there was 1 kid in school.
To the extent that when I was a kid my mate saw a balck man ont he street and said "look mum martin luther king"
If you think you're not racist then just relax. You're way to anxious about the whole issue. CALM DOWN!

I really can't relate to this. Just pretend they're Asian? :dontknow: Or maybe get one or two of your Asian friends to come with you when you want to go and speak to a White person?

Do you feel inferior to the white community and then feel intimidated by the white superiority?

OP,it could just be that you are used to hanging out with Asians and just haven't mastered the dynamics of how white people interact.

Saying that, I've also sort of got the same problem but its not just white people in general but white people not from London :s It just seems as if there is a some sort of barrier which is difficult to overcome so I just tend not to make much effort with them. But it never seems to be a problem when its girls because I just sort of roll with the flow and talk my usual nonsense.

Even though I've met people from all over the country at uni, all my friends seem to be from London or surrounding areas.

    I'm black by the way

You'll make friends naturally. Look around you, most people's friends are the same race as them, coincidence? No. People generally have more common with people from the same ethnicity. There's a lot of white people, I just don't get  It's really not a problem. Don't get their jokes, their music, their food etc Only a problem if you flat out refuse to be friends with white people (which you obviously don't).
With so many white people around, i'm surprised you've never encountered much variation.

Stop letting what someone looks like on the outside affect what you think about them on the inside. Be more open-minded... White, black, yellow... we're all the same! Do go out of your way to talk to someone just because of their race... It's silly! Instead, chat to people you have things in common with, if they just happen to be Asian.. then that's not so bad... But don't rule out black/white/chinese friends just because they look different!

    Hope this helps.
Remember, you're all going through similar things right now (uni) so you probably have more in common than you think.

    ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS?

OF COURSE YOU CAN BE RACIST WITHOUT BEING WHITE!! The irony is, is that is an intrinsically RACIST comment in itself!!!!!!!!!! :eek3:  :woo:

Can anyone advise me. Im really worried that this could affect my uni life. A lot of the time I find it hard to gel with white people compared with asian. I just feels a lot more awkward. I wish it wasnt like this. Im not a racist or anything, but i noticed im more chilled with my asian friends rather then whites.
I really dont wanna be labelled as "one of those asians who only hangs around with asians" any more.
I always find that whenever i meet south americans we make friends immediately because we've silently decided that we have lots in common because we're from the same continent. It's like we're long-lost relatives. With english people i don't have that shortcut to friendship so i need to work harder to befriend them and find things in common but in the end the friendship is just as good but it took longer to form.
You'll just have to try harder and realise that maybe there is a dynamic to your friendships with asian people that you'll never get from those with white people.

The biggest difference is that whites drink and asians don't, if you can't overcome that then it'll be hard

Ha! If you find out, tell me. I'm Asian too and I feel our cultures are just too different. Especially since my country is close with the U.S. and I was raised speaking American English. That said, of my three closest friends, only one is Asian while the other two are Russian. Sad, really. I've even considered moving to the U.S. after graduation if I really can't socialize well with people in the UK.
same here i got the hey buddy accent to which everyone goes like o.0
