Can I get into UNI if I apply today with no reference with 260 points maybe 280? if I include communication studies A pass ( I think its 20 points or something).

I've already had a GAP year well on a GAP year and to be honest it's ended up with me doing nothing and actually walking further away from education.

I know people are migrating to this country and also due to economy people are staying in education longer. So what are my chances I don't want to go to Oxford but I don't want to go to one of those run down london universities.

    Thanks.

Depends, if you're competing with someone with the exact same qualifications as yourself, and they have few good references, I think it is safe to say that Uni would choose them
In my opinion references are a good indicator to a University, to see how well you have worked in the past from a tutors/teachers perspective, if you hand things in on time and so forth. Not having a reference, sure you may have the UCAS points / grades, but for all the Uni knows, you could have left everything to the last minute and scraped those grades.

Having said that, I think they will at least consider you. The predicted increase of about 60,000 extra Uni applicants this year is a bit of a put off however, especially since the Government cut funding to some Universities. Is the course competitive? What degree are you going for? Which Uni's?

Sounds about right, economics being another one. Depends on the Uni as well, you'll find a lot of the prestigious uni's will fill up quickly, regardless of course. I'm guessing you have applied to certain Uni's/courses already?
