In the book for Cartesian Equations, it says Sec a = 1/cos a?

Do we need to know these as were are doing C3 and C4 in june and haven't come across this?

Nah you don't need to know these for OCR MEI M1 or M2, they rarely come up in C4 if I'm being honest

P.S. Good way of remembering them, look at the 3rd letter in,

    coSec a = 1 / Sin a

    seC a = 1 / Cos a

    coT a = 1 / Tan a

You don't need to know about sec for M1 at all. If I remember rightly, it's used in some of the "enrichment material" (I.e. off the syllabus) questions on whether a projecticle can go through a point in the book, which is probably what you're looking at.
